Mandozzi Elettronica's custom designed products

Mandozzi Elettronica
offers custom designed products
Mandozzi Elettronica SA has always been successful in designing special products for Customers who have individual requirements that cannot be satisfied by standard equipment.

This section aims to briefly cover the audio, engineering, hardware and software technical knowledge and the expertise involved into the realization, tailored to the specific Clients needs otherwise destined to remain unsatisfied, of those systems, equipments and software packages.

If You are interested into the customization of an existing product and/or need the realization of a custom one, feel free to contact us by e-mail (sales@mandozzi.ch). A sales representative of ours will analyze Your request(s) and will get back to You shortly.

Some examples of custom realized solutions:

Audio transmission system via redundant optical fibres HOPA
HOPA was designed for a customer who needed very reliable audio transmission over a distance of several kilometers. For this purpose Mandozzi realized a system consisting of two independent transmitting boxes that are connected to two independent receiving boxes. The two transmitting boxes receive the same analogue or AES/EBU signals and convert them into fibre optic signals that are transmitted via optical fibres to two receiving boxes that supply the received audio signals as analogue or AES/EBU signals. Each of the two receiving boxes is connected to both transmitting boxes in order to form a redundant system. If one transmitting box fails, or an optical fibre is interrupted, the receiving box automatically switches to the other fibre. The switch over can also be ordered manually on the receiving box or remotely by GPIO.
Audio Level Monitoring Equipment SSMD
The SSMD equipment measures the level of AES/EBU audio signals, compares them with pre-programmed upper and lower limits, and generates an alarm if a level is outside the limits for longer than a pre-programmed time. The alarm disappears if the level returns to its nominal value and stays inside the level limits for longer than another pre-programmable time. Built-in relays can be used to switch to a back-up signal if the main signal is outside the level limits.
The level monitoring is realized by MOUD modules that can be configured for various applications:
  1. Each of the four input signals of the MOUD module is forwarded to one separate output. The levels of the four input signals are compared to the pre-programmed upper and lower level thresholds. If one level is outside the level thresholds for longer than a pre-programmed time, the module generates an alarm that is present as long as the level thresholds are not respected. The alarm is available as relay output, as RS232 signal or on a LAN connector.
  2. Four main input signals and four back-up input signals are connected to the MOUD module. As described in point 1, the levels of the main signals are measured, and built-in relays switch the output to the corresponding back-up signal if a main signal is outside the level limits. At the same time, an alarm is generated.
  3. The four inputs are organised in two pairs of two signals each. One signal is the main signal, the other one the back-up signal. Normally, the main signal is passed through to the output. If a main signal is lower or higher than one of the thresholds for longer than a pre-programmable time, the MOUD module switches the back-up signal to the output. The back-up signals are also monitored, and the system only switches to a back-up signal if its level is inside the pre-programmed level limits. If a back up signal is switched to one of the outputs, the SSMD system creates an alarm. A scheduler software is also integrated that can be used to indicate to the SSMD system whether the main signal is present or not at a given time, in order to prevent unnecessary alarms.
A PC keyboard, a mouse and a TFT screen can be connected to the SSMD to program the threshold limits, to indicate whether the signals are present, to program the scheduler and the GPIO, to display the levels, and to recall various log files.
Audio Switching and Monitoring Matrix KS41x2
The KS41x2 audio switch was designed to be installed in radio broadcast transmitter stations, where it is used to switch one of four incoming radio programmes to the transmitter. The audio signals received are monitored, and if a level lies outside pre-programmed lower or upper limits, the equipment automatically switches another of three pre-programmable signals to the transmitter. The switch can be installed in analogue or digital environments, because it switches simultaneously analogue input signals to analogue outputs, and AES/EBU input signals to AES/EBU outputs.
In case of a power failure, built-in relays connect the first analogue input signal to the analogue outputs, and it also connects the first AES/EBU input signal to the AES/EBU outputs.
The audio switch is managed by a built-in processor that establishes the control interfaces with the external world, inclusive of SNMP. The level monitoring circuits are configured (setting of the level thresholds and times) by means of a PC that uses an internal configuration software.
The KS41x2 switch is built into a 19” cabinet of 1 HU.
Audio matrix with integrated line equalizers TAVI
If a matrix is connected via copper lines to e. g. theatres and opera houses, the frequency response curves of these lines have to be equalized. Mandozzi Elettronica realized a matrix with 240 integrated redundant digital equalizers. The equalizers are realized by means of digital signal processors whose parameters are stored in two separate memories. The frequency response curves are controlled by rotary knobs or by drawing the filter curves on touch screens that display the resulting line curves.
Equipment for switching between redundant and not redundant fibres FOSW
In many installations, the redundant audio matrix IDEA is connected to external equipment, e. g. third party mixers, via optical fibres. Some mixers have redundant fibre interfaces, some have non redundant interfaces. In order to give the customer full freedom to connect any type of equipment to the IDEA matrix, Mandozzi developed a module that allows the redundant matrix fibre interfaces to be adapted to redundant or non redundant external equipment. This module is controlled by the redundant central processors of the matrix, thus assuring that the active half of the matrix is automatically connected to the external equipment.
Audio Codec Control Software DACOS
Mandozzi Elettronica SA has developed DACOS, a software package that controls external ISDN and IP codecs. It allows ISDN audio connections to be established by simple mouse clicks from a great number of working positions. The phone numbers are stored in a directory together with the parameters for the audio transmission, so that the codecs are controlled automatically.
The DACOS software can be run on a PC network, but it is also integrated into the control software of the IDEA audio matrices. In this case, if an incoming signal is switched to an output audio line connected to a codec, DACOS automatically configures the codec according to the transmission mode required.
Equipment for transmitting data over audio channels MADAT
For cases where only a 15 kHz audio channel is available, but digital signals have to be transmitted over this channel as well, Mandozzi realized the MADAT system. A sharp filter cuts the upper audio bandwidth at 14.57 kHz and transmits 400 Bd digital signals in the remaining 300 Hz bandwidth. The audio frequency response is very flat.
